Welcome to our first issue. Each week The Rub will report on the latest investment opportunities, update readers on investment strategies and alert them to technical issues emerging in the investment markets, particularly those that relate to trustees of self-managed superannuation funds.

Readers will find a lively coverage of the equity, property, fixed income and cash markets. We will delve into alternative assets. Our coverage of strategy will include portfolio construction, superannuation planning, tax, estate planning, insurance, retirement planning, aged care and more.

Only about 30 per cent of Australians consult a financial planner regularly, so there is an important role for a publication such as this to inform trustees of self-managed superannuation funds and other investors of investment market developments and keep them abreast of opportunities.

Our reporting on markets and strategies will be supported by informed insight and commentary from a range of experts working in the investment and superannuation industries.

The Rub is published by Shed Connect, which also publishes New Investor and Investor Strategy News. It is an experienced team, led by publisher Greg Bright, with a strong track record in financial media.

One of the questions I have been asked over the past couple of months, as we have prepared our new publication, is how we chose our masthead. “The rub” is the problem or difficulty in a particular situation. Shakespeare used it in Hamlet’s soliloquy: “To sleep, perchance to dream: ay, there’s the rub.”

So, our title should be read as a sign to readers that we will address the complexities and challenges investors face in building their wealth, breaking the issues down to provide useful information. Ours is very much a “news you can use” approach.
